MAPH Meet Ups

Hey Guys,

Here is a list of some upcoming events, where you can meet other incoming MAPHers, see fun parts of the city, and take a break from unpacking boxes. There will be plenty of other events over the next month (orientation panels, Core lectures, etc.), but these are some of the more fun, social events that we have planned. Keep an eye on the blog for more on upcoming events soon!

Paul Durica: Former Preceptor, Moustache Aficionado, Tour Guide Extraordinaire.

September 3rd, 3pm: Campus Tour with Paul Durica, a past preceptor and creator of the Pocket Guide to Hell tour company. The tour will probably last an hour and a half, after which we’ll take a group over to Woodlawn Tap, aka Jimmy’s, for a beer.

September 13th, 10:45am: City Farm. This urban farm, located in between the Loop and Lincoln Park, is a favorite of ours. We’ll volunteer there for a couple of hours, hanging out with their chickens and weeding vegetables. We will get there and back on public transport, so this is a great chance to start on the CTA and show off your new Ventra card. After working in the garden (in clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty, sunscreen, and maybe a straw hat?), we’ll take the ‘El’ back down to Hyde Park. Then we can head back to MAPH Central for snacks in the lounge!

September 18th, 5pm: Art Institute Visit. On this lovely Thursday evening, we will take advantage of the museum’s lengthened hours and hop on the bus with a group to visit the Art Institute, for free! There is no Core lecture this day, so the museum is a great chance to hang out with other MAPHers and enjoy taking in some art/cultural knowledge on your own. Once there, you can choose whichever exhibits you want to see and whether or not you may want to stay downtown for drinks, etc.

September 27th, 10:30am: Green City Market. This much beloved market is a Chicago favorite and not be missed while the weather is still nice. This Saturday morning, after Week Two of Colloquium, we’ll lead a group up north to check out vendors and veggies at the Market. The Market closes at 1pm, so after that any MAPHers can take the chance to further explore and enjoy the North Side, which really does become harder to do as the school year progresses.

We hope to see you guys there!
